Inventions and Sinfonias
September 18th, 2007 | by tiroirdelmare |The Inventions and Sinfonias of Johann Sebastian Bach are more commonly called the
Two- and Three-Part Inventions
The origin of the Inventions and Sinfonias of Johann Sebastian Bach can be found in the Clavierbüchlein vor Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, a collection of compositions written by Johann Sebastian Bach for his first son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. On the Autograph that’s presently at the Yale University of Newhave (Connecticut, USA) is written :
Started at Köthen on 22January 1720
and the compositions are called “Preambles and Fantasies“.
In a second revision done by Bach, one of the many modifications is the name of the compositions, which then become “Inventions and Sinfonias“.
