Who’s Marina Scalafiotti

Marina Scalafiotti is a very appreciated Italian pianist, recognised for her beautiful interpretations spanning from Baroque to Contemporary music.

Along her pianistic career she plays as soloist at the piano and harpsichord, and in Musical Ensembles for chamber music with artists as Erwin Schiffer, Kati Sebestyen, Jacques Dupriez and Brigitte Autret.

She performed in the most prestigious concert halls of most European countries and in the USA, with orchestras with directors as Ovidiu Balan, Gian Andrea Noseda, Piero Bellugi, Herbert Soudant and Pierangelo Gelmini.

At the age of 16, she won the first International Competition prize in Stresa (Italy). During the following years, she won dozens of first prizes in important piano contests.
Her passion for contemporary music allowed her to win the Spedidam prize in the International Competition of Orléans 2002.

After her studies of piano and harpsichord in the Turin Conservatory, she meets among others Alexis Weissenberg, Lazar Berman and Orazio Frugoni who encouraged her to pursue a solo career.
Soon she decided to move to Paris to perfect her art of interpretation in the Ecole Normale “Alfred Cortot”.

In Paris she studied with Nelson Delle-Vigne Fabbri, a former pupil of Magda Tagliaferro, Claudio Arrau and Georges Cziffra.

Today Marina Scalafiotti is teaching in the Conservatory of Turin and in numerous Piano Master Classes. She is also member of the Faculty of “The International Certificate for Piano Artists” presided by Philippe Entremont and of the jury in several international piano competitions.
